Ja'Rome Johnson: Making the Defense Wrong

For the second time this season, quarterback Ja'Rome Johnson has been named Offensive Player of the Week by the IFL. This honor comes after Johnson led the Knight Hawks in all offensive categories in their victory over San Antonio.

He completed 11 of 13 passes for 160 yards with four touchdowns. On the ground, Johnson ran for 57 yards and three touchdowns.

Knight Hawks offensive coordinator Hurtis Chinn highlighted that Johnson's abilities are magnified when you pair them with the other talented players on offense.

"He's coming from a place where he was a rookie and didn't get a full season under his belt. So now that he's over here in Vegas, he's in a place where he has structure, weapons around him, and a stellar offensive line who, I would say, is the best in the league," said Chinn. "They give him time to actually go through his progressions and his reads. And when he finds guys wide-open, it makes it look easy."

With Johnson at the helm the VKH offense has solidified itself as one of the most potent in the IFL. Johnson is fourth in the league with 422 passing yards. Four different receivers have a touchdown grab, led by Caleb Holley with four. Not to be outshined, CJ Windham is the league-leader with 23 yards-per-catch.

The offensive line has only given up a single sack, while opening running lanes to allow Johnson to rush for a league-leading 219 yards. With stellar play in the trenches, Vegas also leads the league in average rushing-yards per attempt

"He knows to just keep his feet moving and make the defense wrong at all costs," said Chinn.

Johnson's physical abilities, in tandem with his football IQ, is what has made him the IFL Offensive Player of the Week twice in Vegas' first three games.

"We always talk about making the defense wrong no matter what they do," said Chinn. "When it comes to making the defense wrong, he's making the right read, whether we run a front-side read, back-side read, or if we run a power play with a read. He knows to just keep his feet moving and make the defense wrong at all costs."
