NOTES
The Vegas Knight Hawks are hitting the road, traveling almost
2000 miles to play the Jacksonville Sharks at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena this Saturday. This is the second and final meeting between the two teams this season. Vegas is currently undefeated at 3-0 and off to the best start in franchise history. Jacksonville, however, has begun their first season of IFL play winless at 0-3. All three losses have come to undefeated teams, one of those being to Vegas in week 3.
Much of Vegas' early success stems from the productivity of the offense. Quarterback
Ja'Rome Johnson had seven touchdowns and 217 all-purpose yards in last week's game. His efforts earned him the Week 5 Offensive Player of the Week award, marking the second time he's received the honor this year. Johnson's four touchdown throws were caught by three different receivers,
CJ Windham leading the group with two scoring catches.
Although their hard work does not show up on the scorecard, the Vegas offensive line has been spectacular through three games. The trio of
Moses Mallory,
Kevin Toote, and
Kory Woodruff has only allowed one sack on the season. They have paved the way for Johnson to be the league leader in rushing yards with 219.
Defensively,
Bryce Hampton led the team in tackles last week with eight.
Gabe McCoy saw significant action as he recorded his first sack of the season along with three tackles
in the backfield. This defensive unit will try to replicate their week 3 success against Jacksonville. Vegas forced two interceptions and got a sack against Blount in their last meeting.
OPPOSITION UPDATE
Jacksonville is seeking their first win of the 2024 campaign. Unfortunately for them, this is their fourth game in a row
that they are playing an undefeated opponent. In their last outing, the Sharks played in their home opener against the defending IFL Champion Bay Area Panthers. This game resulted in the Sharks losing their first game by multiple scores, 48-24.
The quarterback duties were split last week with Blount going 6-9 through the air with two touchdown passes. Eddie Brill Jr. also took reps under center, he went 7-22 with two scores and an interception. One key area of focus for the Knight Hawks will be to keep the ball away from JAX defensive back Harrison Poole. Poole is second in the league in tackles with 20 solo tackles and seven assisted tackles.
