Box Score The Vegas Knight Hawks fell to the Tucson Sugar Skulls, 51-50, in overtime on Saturday evening. It was the Knight Hawks' first loss of the season.
Tucson opened the scoring with an early touchdown from Brian Smith. The Knight Hawks were quick to retake the lead with a rushing touchdown from Ja'Rome Johnson and a PAT from Kevin Macias. Despite a field goal from the Sugar Skulls with less than five to go in the first quarter, Vegas headed into the second with a five-point lead thanks to a touchdown from CJ Windham. The two teams traded leads throughout the second quarter. Johnson added his second rushing touchdown of the game and Antonio Wimbush found the endzone for his first score of the game. But touchdowns from Smith and quarterback Mylik Mitchell gave Tucson a one-point lead before the second half.
The Knight Hawks scored the only points of the third quarter thanks to Wimbush adding another touchdown, his ninth of the season. The Sugar Skulls, however, tied the game early in the fourth quarter with a rushing touchdown from Mike Jones. Jorge Reyna put Vegas back in front, 43-36, with a rushing touchdown of his own followed by a two-point conversion to Caleb Holley. But Tucson sent the game to overtime with a kickoff return that tied the game at 43.
Reyna stepped up with another rushing touchdown in overtime to make it 50-43. But the Sugar Skulls added one of their own and capitalized on a two-point conversion to seal a Tucson victory.
The Vegas Knight Hawks will head into a bye week before returning to Lee's Family Forum on Saturday, June 1. They'll take on the Northern Arizona Wranglers for the first time this season. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. PT, and tickets are available here.
